MIGHTY TAU

Mighty TAU Chapter, the nineteenth chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered on January 24, 1924. Mighty TAU Chapter was the FIRST BLACK GREEK LETTERED ORGANIZATION to be established on the campus of Wayne State University. The original charter members are Mamie Green Alexander, Eolyn Klugh Guy, Hazel Shaw Maynard, Helene Tines and Elizabeth Vinegar.

At its inception, Mighty TAU Chapter was comprised of undergraduates as well as graduates from colleges and universities within the city limits of Detroit. On May 13, 1939, Mighty TAU Chapter was rechartered specifically to the campus of  Wayne State University. The recharter members are Beryl Anderson, Gertrude Bailey, Lillian Brown, Jinnie Calfee, Katheen Coote, Majorie Dunbar, Josephine Gaines, Edna Hardnett, Frances Homer, Clara Stanton Jones, Emmeta Verlie Morton, Eleanor Osborne, Esther Price, Beulah Robinson, Mamie Sims, Jerolean Sneed, Bernice Steward, Christine Tandy, Charlotte Watt and Bernice White.

Mighty TAU Chapter is continually dedicated to upholding the founding principles of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service. Currently, Mighty TAU Chapter participates in Greening of Detroit, Crossroads Soup Kitchen, Adopt-a-Family and the American Heart Association Heart Walk. Mighty TAU Chapter serves the community through mentorship programs, scholarship funds, health and financial seminars, minority bone marrow awareness, HIV/ AIDS awareness, HPV awareness, food and clothing drives, voter registration, homeownership seminars, Go Red for Women seminars, and several other programs aimed to uplifting our surrounding community.
